Marena Patronas, M.D., is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon who specializes in diseases of the retina and vitreous. She joins The Eye Center as an Associate Physician and Surgeon, seeing patients in both the Leesburg and Alexandria offices, where she looks forward to providing the local community with a full range of vitreoretinal services.

Dr. Patronas earned her B.S. in Biology and her M.D. from Georgetown University, completed an internship at Flushing Hospital Medical Center and an ophthalmology residency at St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center–Manhattan (New York Medical College), and finished a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School. She previously served as Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she taught residents and served as the certified ophthalmologist for the EDIC trial the follow-up to the landmark DCCT and practiced with Retina Associates in Cleveland and the Retina Group of Columbus.

Dr. Patronas diagnoses and treats complex retinal disease, including diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, retinal vascular disease, and macular degeneration.
