After surgery, we prescribe antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops to prevent infection and control swelling. Using these drops correctly is one of the most important steps in ensuring a smooth recovery. Wash your hands before applying drops, tilt your head back gently, and avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any surface. If you are using more than one type of drop, wait at least five minutes between each one.
For the first week or two, avoid heavy lifting, bending with your head below your waist, and vigorous exercise. Swimming and hot tubs should be avoided for at least two weeks, and eye makeup should be skipped for about one week. Sunglasses are helpful outdoors to protect your healing eye from light and debris.
